City Moment – Buffalo’s Martyrdom, Gali Kuen Wali Moments by The Delhi Walla - November 3, 2013November 6, 20137 The melancholic Delhi instant. [Text and photos by Mayank Austen Soofi] One morning The Delhi Walla came across a lifeless buffalo in Old Delhi’s Gali Kuen Wali street. The body was lying upside down. Its mouth was open — the teeth were pure white. The buffalo had been killed only a few minutes ago. The lane was wet with pale-red blood. Two men were skinning the animal. One of them had the taut slimness of an athlete. He was dressed in black. The muscles of his arms were moving like a rail engine’s connecting rods. His expressions were that of a carpenter at work. The area’s children had gathered around the buffalo. They watched wide-eyed as the men started to carve out meat cuts from the body. (One little girl was smiling.) Suddenly, the slim man turned his gaze towards the blood-stained street. His entire body froze in mid-action. The muscled man remained in that position for a few seconds, and then went back to his task. It was a sad and beautiful moment. Rest in peace 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 8. 9. Aw !! Comeon! Do we really need this PUBLIC SPECTACLE in 2013 in Delhi, the capital ciy of India, the city of Arundhati Roy !!!!! I say NO. There are slaughter houses for this. There are toilets for relieving yourself. And abbatoirs for this!!! Loading...
Interesting series of photos and narrative. Not sure this is a common practice in the streets. Are this was connected to a ritual. Was the previous commentor. It appears unnecessarily barbaric, though this type of slaughter happens. Loading...
profoundly disturbing! not just on account of the gore and gristle, but, I mean, look at the conditions in which the act is being performed. I would not like a piece of that meat on my plate. For heaven’s sake, there is excrement right next to the carcass ! Loading...
